About The TCO
An itinerant professional orchestra, Toronto Concert Orchestra may also be heard through the spring and fall in some of downtown Toronto’s magnificent concert venues and churches and in communities across Ontario where it delivers concerts and music outreach/education programs. We presented our first symphony concert at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre in 2008. Although our most famed concerts of the year are our summer season, we are regularly invited to perform across Southern Ontario throughout the year, as well as presenting our own uniquely curated concerts.
Our musicians perform for film, theatre, ballet, and opera. Many are engaged in teaching the next generation of musicians and we boast a steady roster of excellent musicians. In supporting a new generation of artists, we collaborate with the Chinese Cultural Centre of Toronto’s International Piano Competition; offer precious solo opportunities to young rising stars, and collaborate with PRIME, a charitable organization that delivers one-on-one mentoring programs for creative and underserved children and youth from at-risk neighbourhoods, providing opportunities for their student artists to gain orchestral performing experience.
The award-winning orchestra is known as well for actively commissioning new Canadian and international works. It attracts and features distinguished guest artists and conductors, and has performed at prominent venues in Toronto in order to appeal to a wide cross-section of guests, many genres of music are featured in the Summer Symphony Series – from Beethoven to the Bee Gees.
It is Toronto Concert Orchestra’s artistic mission:
- To strive for peak performance individually, as an ensemble, and throughout the organization.
- To develop more powerful and deep connections through music between and among performers and audiences thus fostering close
collaboration and respect. - To aspire toward versatility and flexibility as an organization and artistically have the willingness to risk failure in our creative
endeavours. Produce creative art but also present real change in how our art form of symphonic music progresses.
In the pursuit of artistic excellence, the TCO will:
- Bring an affordable concert experience to audiences within the GTA as well as artistically underserved communities in Southwestern
Ontario. - Nurture and promote established and emerging performing artists and composers from diverse and varied communities.
- Initiate and cultivate youth appreciation of and participation in the arts.
